Lablab
Lablab purpureus is a species of a bean in the family of Fabaceae. It is native to Africa and is grown for food. Lablab has so many uses. The young pods can be used as vegetables. Seeds and leaves are consumed as well. Lablab can also be used as animal feed. Lablab is fast growing that grazing or haymaking can begin 7 to 10 weeks after sowing. Cattle, sheep, goats, and pigs can eat it avidly. Fodder yields of 5 to 10 tons per hectare are said to be normal. Incorporating living lablab into grass pastures improves the quality, palatability and digestibility.
Lablab is effective for land restoration. They can be grown alone, interplanted with field crops or included in crop rotations. They make a good cover crop.
